David Gottfried has been a trial lawyer since 1989. He is a graduate of Emory University Law School in Atlanta.
His first 7 years following law school were spent practicing in a multi-city law firm. David then opened his own practice, focusing on real estate and business litigation.
As a general practice trial lawyer, David has represented clients in several areas, including: class actions, construction law, deceptive trade practices, employment law, business torts, antitrust, shareholder derivative actions, collections, water utility rate change applications, administrative law, premises liability, landlord-tenant law, and business transactions that include formations, mergers, and acquisitions.
David is a problem solver. His unique skill set includes his ability to draw from his own experience, his persuasive manner, his negotiating prowess, his measured application of pressure on his opponents, and his focus on preparation and methodical strategy.
When not working hard for his clients, David enjoys spending time with his two daughters, playing sand volleyball, and water-skiing on Lake Austin before the work day begins.
Meghan Alexander is a partner at Gottfried Alexander Law Firm in Austin, Texas, where she represents all types of clients in civil litigation in Travis County and Central Texas. With nearly two decades of experience, she handles disputes related to real estate, business, contracts, fraud, DTPA, and business tort claims. She also advises clients on second parent adoptions, estate planning, and probate.
Meghan was born and raised in Austin. After law school, she served for three years as an Assistant District Attorney in the Civil Division of the Lubbock County Criminal District Attorney’s Office. She has participated in more than 150 mediations and tried more than 300 bench trials and several jury trials. That experience shaped her approach: resolve the dispute efficiently if the terms are right, and be fully prepared to try it when they are not. Her clients and the lawyers she works with know her as credible, direct, and practical.
Patrick is of-counsel to Gottfried Alexander and heads up the appeals practice. He has been licensed to practice law since 1991 and in Texas since 2007. He graduated with high honors from Duke University School of Law in Durham, North Carolina in 1990. He holds a masters degree in English literature from Duke.
Following a federal judicial clerkship in Atlanta, Patrick worked at a large law firm in Washington, DC, handling litigation. He left law practice in 1998 to start up a residential and light-commercial design/build firm in the DC area known for creative reuse, renovation, and rehabilitation of old homes. Having been raised in Texas, Patrick returned in 2007 with his wife and three young children, where he resumed law practice.
Patrick is a leading property rights lawyer and veteran appeals lawyer. He has handled over 50 appeals across the state and regularly appears in the Texas Supreme Court. At the trial level, he advises and guides clients in protecting their rights against homeowners’ associations, condominium boards, and oppressive city ordinances.
Mike Johnson is an Austin, Texas trial and appellate attorney at Gottfried Alexander Law Firm with nearly three decades of experience in Texas state and federal courts. He handles commercial and real estate litigation and defends attorneys, law firms, real estate brokers, accountants, insurance agents, and other licensed professionals against legal malpractice, professional liability, and breach of fiduciary duty claims. Mike also represents professionals in grievance and disciplinary proceedings before the State Bar of Texas and other licensing agencies, and counsels them on ethics and risk management.
Mike began his career at Winston & Strawn in Chicago. Before joining the firm, he spent more than two decades at Thompson, Coe, Cousins & Irons, L.L.P., where he was a partner leading a professional liability defense practice. His results include a full defense verdict for a real estate agent and broker, a take-nothing judgment for a law firm after a jury trial, and a complete defense award in AAA arbitration for a family law firm sued for legal malpractice, along with recovery of the firm’s unpaid fees. His appellate work includes numerous published Texas decisions on legal malpractice and professional liability.
